Week 4...... Yeah!
And this week's meditation...Loving-Kindness! Was it difficult and/or beneficial???? Well, once again I fell asleep, but the second time around I finished it with mixed feelings. Okay, this one nearly killed me. I don't know if it was the length or the silences or something else, but I couldn't stay relaxed. I'd start to relax and feel Zen-like and the speaker would interrupt with the next directions. As for beneficial.... The meditation itself I didn't find beneficial at all. I was more frazzled than relaxed when it was over. However, the concept is very beneficial. I did the meditation 3 days ago and have found that I'm conscious of my attitude and what I'm sending out there into the cosmic universe. And while it seem somewhat silly, on the times when I've become frustrated, angry, or irritated, I've silently chanted 'loving-kindness. . . loving kindness". It seems to help.
Would I recommend this to others? I would recommend to others. Maybe they'll come away from it with a deeper understanding of themselves or others. Or maybe like me, the difference will be noticed later. If the meditations can help them in any way, I'd recommend them without question.
What is a mental workout? These would be workouts to calm the mind and bring perspectives into clear and concise views. Meditations and relaxation exercises are mental workouts. Research has shown that exercises that enable the mind to bring order to the chaos or mental chatter, extends it every day life. This is important because having a cluttered mind is a bit like driving a car with no idea where you're going. And if you have no idea where you are going, you know where you might end up!
Week 4 Tip:
We're about a few weeks to 1 month from cherry season! Yum! As we go into Spring, try to take advantage of all the beautiful producs that will shortly be available. Fresh fruits and veggies offer some great health benefits and they taste good. So if you've forgotten what it tastes like to eat fruit or the las time you had a potato it was fried, the time has come to try again. If you're up for a challenge . . . see if you can eat one new fruit or veggie each week. You'll be amazed by what's out there and hopefully find a new treat to enjoy!
Eat well for All of you

You are too funny. I am surprised that I didn't fall asleep like you. Maybe you need practice with it to get better and see the benefits of this exercise. These days we have so much going on that it is hard to expect our minds to relax. This type of exercise is definitely a "mental workout", and shows that it is a little more work than we thought it would be. Ok, now I'm ready for my power-nap!...lol
ReplyDeleteHealth & Happiness,
Jenn
I agree with you about relaxing and getting into my conscious state and then she would come on and break it. I didn't fall asleep but at times I did find it hard to relax. It was a little long and I may not listen to it again but I am going to schedule some time to meditate in the mornings.
ReplyDeleteJenn and Laurie,
ReplyDeleteI definately need more practice at the whole relaxing thing. I've discovered that I have very cluttered mind- apparently it is also a very stubborn one. I've since tried to do this again and had somewhat better luck, but my little mind still tried wandering off, especially in the moments of silence. I'm going to try again and cut it back to 5 minutes. I'll start there and see I can get some organization going on.
It is frustratingto have this dilemna however. In my everyday life, I'm very organized. Maybe my cluttered mind is the counter-balance to that. MMMM . . . I think I'll go meditate on that idea as I work on this week's meditation!
Okay will try this again I'm not sure where my post went some place in the cyber world I guess. Anyway the exercise was good but Briana I did not fall asleep and did have trouble focusing. My day's history kept creeping into my mind and muddying up everything. I like your chanting theory and will try that sometime. I do try my breathing techniques and if I focus I can relax some. I really need to work on this area of focusing and staying in the moment. I agree that this "mental workout" is just that a workout that will take time and gradual steps.
ReplyDeleteBriana,
ReplyDeleteIt sounds to me like you had mixed feelings about this exercise...and I agree, it was different than the ones we have done up to this point. I agree that whenever the lady would talk it would startle me. Maybe they could have made her a little less LOUD!
I didn't fall asleep, but I did lose interest about 3 minutes from the end of the track. I didn't take it too personally as I remember reading that it takes time to be able to do these exercises at length.
Thanks for the tip about cherries! I love fresh produce and I am game for your challenge. Sign me up!
